Band Director Essentials:

Flexible 3-Month Course with 6 Private Lessons 

In this 12-week class, you will learn all of the essential tips and tricks you need to keep clarinet saxophone and flute students engaged in learning and playing in your ensemble with a high functioning instrument. Designed to help reduce the cost of repairs, and incentivize school districts to do small basic repairs ‘in house’ amongst their faculty, our short courses will give you the skills, confidence and ability to be of service to your classroom, campus and community of musicians who need small common repairs.

By learning basic repairs for instruments like clarinets, saxophones, and flutes, directors can ensure that their students continue to play without unnecessary interruptions due to equipment issues.   • Tools needed and their use in instrument maintenance
  • Care and maintenance of instruments
  • Proper assembly/disassembly
  • Replacing tenon corks, neck corks & flute head corks
  • Replacing key corks and working with related materials
  • Evaluation methods
  • Visual inspection
  • Testing rods and screws for
    movement/addressing stuck screws and rods
  • Play-testing
  • Using a leak light and feeler gauges to check for leaks
  • Oiling mechanisms 
  • Removing lost motion in key work 
  • Adjusting springs
  • Replacing pads & adjusting pads
  • Octave key adjustment on Saxophones 
  • Connections with/without adjustment screws 

Learning Outcomes:

Following successful completion of the Band Director Essentials Course, participants will be able to:
